 Rock Fort Temple

Tiruchi’s most famed landmark is an 83m high rock which is the only outcrop in the otherwise flat land of the city. The most amazing fact of this rock is that it is approximately 3,800 million years old.
The actual center of attraction is the temple at the summit more than the fort.
344 steps hewn out of rock lead to the top where there are inscriptions dating back to 3rd century BC. The fort played an important part during the Carnatic wars.

 Srirangam Temple

The districts most important pilgrim center is located in an island just 7 km from Tiruchi. Srirangam, surrounded by the waters of river Kaveri on one side and its tributary Kollidam on the other, is a 600-acre island town enclosed within 7 hills of the gigantic Sri Ranganathaswami Temple. There are 21 gopurams, among which the Rajagopuram is the largest in South India.

 Tiruvanaikkaval or Jambukeswarar Temple

Situate 2 km east Srirangam, this beautiful Siva temple steals the show from the larger Ranganathaswami temple due to its excellent architectural design. The temple is named after the elephant which is believed to have worshiped Lord Siva here.

This temple has records of patronage from the Chola Pandya, Hoysala and the Madurai Naik kings. The temple is said to have been built by the Chola King Ko Chenkannan and it was of special significance to the Chola kings. Ko Chenkannan is praised by Tamil literature for having built more than seventy temples - and he is historically placed in the Sangam period (the very early years of the Christian era).

 Mukkombu (Upper Anicut)

At the head of the Srirangam island, there is another dam called Upper Anaicut or Mukkombu, which is around 685m long. Constructed in the 19th century across the Kollidam, this dam has been forced into three sections instead of one long stretch because of the shape of the island. This is also a good spot for picnics.
 Grand Anicut – Kallanai

Not far from the island is one of the greatest engineering marvels of India. The grand Anaicut was built by Karikalan Chola in the 2nd century AD to harness the waters of the Kaveri. Made on stone, the dam is 329m long and 20m wide and still very much in use. Additions have been made in the form of a road bridge on the top of the dam. This is a good picnic spot.

 St. John’s Church

This church built in 1812 has louvered doors which open to convert it into an airy pavilion. It is located near Theppakulam. Its excellent setting and marvelous architecture makes it a site worth visiting.
